History of the Men’s Group in Chard.

The English Martyrs Parish Men's Group was established in the first full year of our former Parish Priest Father Basil (RIP). He recognised that the parish grounds and buildings were in need of basic maintenance and that some work needed to be carried out in preparation for the church centenary in 2019.

It was also recognised that, on occasion, the very successful and well established Ladies Group would welcome some support from such a group during and before some of their events. The Men's group is open to all men in the parish, whether able bodied or not. Whilst carrying out some basic maintenance some of the men just turn up for a cup of tea and a chat – all are welcome. 

In order to promote the group and ensure that it is not just for work in the parish, the group would have a meal and drink together at a local restaurant three or four times a year. These were always very well attended and great fun.
